Aged Care Home Care Packages in Bankstown
Home Care packages aren’t just an option for the elderly but can be useful for a person with a disability or a mental illness too. If you’re interested in getting a Home Care package for yourself or a loved one, then there are four steps that you need to follow.
Step 1 – Assess whether Home Care is right for you
Home Care packages can significantly improve a person’s quality of life, but it is important to realise that they are a long term solution and are not suitable for everyone. If you are looking for a short-term care solution, then you may be better off with respite care or an alternative care package.
Step 2 – Register with My Aged Care
Once you have decided that Home Care is right for you, then the next step is to register with My Aged Care by either visiting their website or calling them on 1800 200 422.
Step 3 – Getting your ACAT assessment
Next, you will need to undergo an ACAT assessment to determine the level of care that you may need and could be eligible to receive for free from the government. This assessment is typically carried out by a team that may include a nurse, occupational therapist and physiotherapist. After your evaluation, you will be given an ACAT assessment level, from one to four, based on your needs. An ACAT Level 3, for example, means that your assessment has determined that you have intermediate care needs, whereas an ACAT assessment level 4 means that you have been assessed to have high care needs.
Step 4 – Finding and deciding on your Home Care package provider
Whilst you are waiting for your ACAT result, you might as well begin researching local Home Care package providers in your local area because you will only get 56 days to choose a package once your result is decided. This means that once your ACAT results come through, you can confirm your Home Care package right away.
How Much Will A Home Care Package Cost You?
Depending on the level of care that you need, the majority of of your Home Care package costs will be covered by the government; however, you are still expected to contribute to the cost of your care if you can afford to do so. These costs are broken down below;
The basic daily fee for your care can be up to $10.50 per day from the 20th of March 2020.
Depending on your income, you may also need to pay an income-tested care fee of up to $30.86 per day as of the 20th of March 2020. This is assessed annually based on your income.
And lastly, if you have agreed to pay for extra services that are not covered by your Home Care package, then these will also need to be paid.
